Sightsavers has a vision of a world where no one is blind from avoidable causes, and where people with disabilities can participate equally in society.
Sightsavers works in more than 30 countries to prevent avoidable blindness and fight for the rights of people with disabilities.
They treat eye conditions such as cataracts and tackle debilitating diseases, many of which cause sight loss. To do this, Sightsavers works with governments and local, national and international partners to carry out eye operations and distribute treatments where they’re needed. They also advocate for the rights of people with visual impairments and other disabilities, and help to improve local health services so they are sustainable.
In the seven decades since its foundation, Sightsavers has:
Supported more than 1.3 BILLION treatments for neglected tropical diseases.
Carried out more 10 million operations, of which nearly 8 million were cataract surgeries to restore sight.
Carried out more than 200 million eye examinations.
Dispensed more than 4.7 million pairs of glasses to children and adults.
Supported over 85,000 children who are disabled in school.
Trained 264,000 adults who are visually impaired on topics such as daily living and occupational skills.
